Periodically, a committee of design professionals will determine a slate of designers and organizations to invite to submit work for inclusion; they will also curate submissions from the previous round of submissions.

The West Michigan Graphic Design Archives Board will implement a phased strategy to be certain that work can be evaluated and accessioned properly and that there’s value to Archives users along the way. While eventually the archives will encompass the full history of graphic design, it will begin with examples of work from the generation currently retiring and liquidating personal archives: work in print from the 20s through the 80s. A natural break-point, the 1980s were the time when designer-friendly computers and design software changed the process and the possibilities for design.

The Archives will also include books, periodicals, and design annuals authored by or featuring stellar design examples by designers or organizations from the region.

Whenever possible, the story behind the design and development of each piece will be gathered and made available in text, audio, or video.
